Exploring the world of writing: from clay tablets to medieval manuscripts

Objectives: learning about and trying out the different ancient writing techniques

Struttura: tracing the history of writing and its materials from its origins and through subsequent developments by observation of epigraphic evidence and experimentation of different writing techniques.

Objectives: Study of Classical myth as a source of inspiration for Renaissance artists. Learning about how to create a ceramic plate with figures using the techniques of a Renaissance workshop.

Contents: Narration of the myth of “Phaeton’s Fall”; description of a Renaissance potter’s workshop and making a ceramic reproduction of Mastro Giorgio Andreoli’s plate narrating the myth.

Discovering the ancient Italic peoples: what we learn about the Umbrians from the Iguvine Tables

Target age group: primary school (years IV and V) – middle school classes

Objectives: providing information about the Umbrian civilisation by describing the role of various figures from the different social categories and certain aspects of everyday life.

Contents: Examination of the Museum exhibits concerning Ancient Umbrian civilisation especially the Iguvine Tables. “Encounter” with some members of that society, objects in the exhibition and an installation which will provide an introduction to the social organisation and material existence of the Umbrians.

Objectives: giving some idea of Roman civilisation by an evocation of important sites and aspects of daily life in the Municipium of Iguvium

Contents: the classes will be guided on a tour of the Museum exhibits relating to certain aspects of daily life in Roman Gubbio.

Objectives: Discovering medieval architecture and what functions the public buildings had in 14th century Gubbio.

Contents: A guided tour of the Civic Buildings complex and the site of the Duke’s Palace, Indicating the characteristics and functions of the individual locations.

An ancient tale of friendship: St. Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio

Target age group: primary school (years I and II)

Objectives: stimulate the ability to observe and interpret pictures, narrate and dramatise.

Contents: the children will enlarge their knowledge of a particularly important event in the history of Gubbio recorded in a number of works by various artists in the Museum’s collection. Subsequently, they will re-elaborate and re-enact the story.
